Chapter Presidents: Meetings of Purpose

It is sometimes difficult to keep chapter meetings on task. Many of us are thrilled to be able to connect with our sisters for this once a month special time, and we want to catch up on all of the latest news. But it is very important to use our time wisely to conduct the business of our Society. Some pointers on keeping the meeting on schedule:
  • Distribute a printed agenda
  • Allow for questions/discussion at the end of the meeting
  • If a topic requires indepth discussion that is not planned ask that the topic be tabled and placed on the agenda of the next meeting, if applicable.
  • Be consistent in starting and ending on time. Members do not want to have meetings that extend beyond the scheduled completion time.
  • Always be courteous to members. Members are the core of our Society.

Epsilon State Website and Email Suggestions

Throughout the state many of our members utilize school and business email addresses as their contact information for delivery of Epsilon publications, etc. Some of you have noted that problems occur when trying to access the Epsilon website. A problem has also been noticed in the delivery of the Deltion to those who submit their school or business email as their main contact information.

Schools and businesses may have firewalls which prevent the delivery of Epsilon information. A request to all who have school or business emails, is the submission of an alternate email. Epsilon state does not send mass amounts of emails. But we do want you to receive your information and remain updated about our state.

May Allen scholarship guidelines approved

Tulane Board of Administrators approved the May Allen Fund amendment submitted by Epsilon State. This approval aligns the existing scholarship requirements with Epsilon State scholarship guidelines. Tulane representatives will be coordinating efforts with Epsilon State to distribute information to all about the many opportunities of this prestigous scholarship. Please consider applying for enrollment in the programs that will be available to all members of Epsilon State.

The development of the amendment and document review was a tedious and time-consuming process. It is without a doubt that Epsilon State takes this opportunity to say a special "Thank you" to Debney Biggs and the scholarship committee for their time, effort and diligence in bringing this opportunity to fruition for our members.

Chapter President: Chapter Diary

While it is not essential to keep a daily log of your chapter/member happenings, it is essential that you develop a system of recording the information about dates, initiations, meetings recaps, etc. about your chapter.

Some ideas on how to develop an electronic record might be:

  • iPad notes or Pages applications
  • Email notes/reminders within your mailbox
Make every effort to log the history of your chapter during the biennium. It is your history in the making.

Epsilon Members: Back to School

Many of our members will return to the classroom, offices, etc. as schools start back this week around our state. What a great profession we have all chosen  - TEACHING. A teacher impacts the life of their children in many ways - make this impact positive. You, as a teacher, may be the only smile a child will see, your comments may be the only words of encouragement this child hears, and the only one who sees the child as a person. You are IMPORTANT in the life of a child! Make every moment count!

Chapter President: State Representative

Invite a state representative to your chapter meeting and get a Key Chapter point. Representatives include those of the Executive Committee (President, First VP, Second VP, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Recording Secretary, Executive Secretary, Deltion Editor), District Directors, Committee Chairs. Epsilon representatives are well informed about the state and international issues/happenings of our Society.

Some ideas to make the visit representative-friendly to the traveler:
  • Offer overnight lodging at a members home
  • Send information about the chapter or something specific in which you would like the rep to address
  • Send address and travel tips prior to visit
  • Contact (email or phone call) the rep a couple of days before visit is scheduled
