Happy Birthday to Joanna Pruit

Joanna Pruit celebrated her 88th birthday today. Joanna has played the piano at her church (FBC Crowley) for 64 years. She is also a member of Epsilon's Order of the Magnolias. What a terrific lady!

Southeast District Meeting Bogalusa

Approximately 87 members registered for the district meeting today. The meeting was a combination of visiting the historical Bogalusa City Hall, touring the Indian Museum at Cassidy Park. The conclusion of this fabulous event was held at Elizabeth Sullivan Methodist Church with the general session and lunch. Special thanks to Beta Rho chapter, President Cindy Melancon, District Director Diane Vickers. Great job everyone.

Alpha Alpha meets the challenge

Alpha Alpha Chapter NE district has confirmed that 100% of their members have completed the online document for Deltion Delivery preference. Great job Alpha Alpha Chapter President Dianne Simms and members for your efforts in this challenge.

Deltion Editor launches E-Challenge

In an effort to offer more information, Wanda Lemoine Deltion Editor has launched a challenge to all chapter presidents to confirm electronic or hard copy receipt of the Deltion. This challenge is currently underway and all presidents are asked to review the names of their members being sent in correspondence this week. President's are asked to poll the members not listed for their preference and complete the online form concerning the member preference.

Northeast District Meeting Winnsboro

Approximately 54 members of the NW converged on Winnsboro for the meeting today. The members were treated to a workshop presented by Mary Ann Hatfield, Past President of Epsilon State. Special thanks to Orene
Sharp of Omega Chapter and Stacy Potter for the time and talents in coordinating this special event for DKG.

May Allen Scholarship Information

Tulane University School of Continuing Studies is pleased to announce the re-institution of the May Allen Fund’s scholarship awards, which will recommence in spring 2013. 

The May Allen scholarships memorialize Dr. May Allen, a DKG member who passed away in 1965.  Dr. Allen, a native of Yarmouth, Maine, was one of the first women to receive a doctoral degree from Yale University (in 1908).   She was a professor of classical languages at Newcomb College.

The May Allen Scholarships will provide tuition & fees for DKG Epsilon State members to enroll in up to 13 hours of coursework and/or travel-study programs through Tulane’s School of Continuing Studies.  Applications will be considered twice a year for proposed study during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.  Applications will be accepted in early March for the following Summer and Fall semester courses and in early November for the next Spring semester’s courses.

In order to qualify for the scholarships, applicants must:

• Have been members in good standing of Delta Kappa Gamma for at least 3 years;
• Be employed as a teacher, school librarian, counselor, or school administrator for at least 5 years;
• Demonstrate merit;
• Complete and submit a two-part application form, available on the School of Continuing Studies’ website;
• Have identified the intended coursework and/or travel-study offered through the School of Continuing Studies at the time of application.

The School of Continuing Studies (SCS) is the part-time, open-admissions division of Tulane University; students are limited to 13 credit hours per semester.  To review the University’s Schedule of Classes, please visit http://classschedule.tulane.edu/ .  For a sample listing of scholarly travel-study programs offered by Tulane, visit:  http://tulane.studioabroad.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.FeaturedPrograms  A very limited number of online courses are offered; in addition, SCS offers classes at satellite campuses in Harahan, LA; Biloxi, MS; and Madison, MS.  Class locations/formats are noted on the Schedule of Classes.  Course offerings and travel programs vary each semester; each applicant should ascertain that the desired courses or travel-study are being offered prior to applying for the scholarship funds.
